Hahn Software Development Becomes torck: An Explanation of the Rebranding

Hahn Softwareentwicklung is now torck. If you're familiar with the old name and are searching for it, you've come to the right place. The only changes are the name on the letterhead and the web address. Everything else—from the commercial register number to the direct phone number—remains the same as before.

Why the new name "torck"

The old company name was a stopgap solution. When the company was founded, something had to be entered in the commercial register, so the founder’s last name was listed there. That’s all that’s needed for a registry entry. It never really became part of the company’s identity.

Customers trust the people they speak with when there’s a production hold-up or a release is in jeopardy. This trust has little to do with the name on the letterhead. That’s exactly why the name could be changed without affecting the collaboration in any way.

„torck“ comes from „torque,“ the English word for rotational force. Torque is the force that sets something in motion and keeps it moving. The term originates from mechanical engineering and combines power with precision. Both qualities are a good fit for a company that develops software for industry and retail. The slogan “code with torque” stems from this same concept.

There’s also a practical consideration. A German last name works in Maxhütte-Haidhof. It works in Vienna, too. In Rabat, people spell it out three times and still end up mispronouncing it. A five-letter word that sounds the same in every language cuts down on those kinds of conversations. That wasn’t the main reason for the move, but the decision did make things easier.

What Remains the Same

What's Changing

The name, logo, and web address (torck.io) are new. Quotes and invoices are issued by torck GmbH, and the address in Maxhütte-Haidhof remains the same. Effective immediately, email addresses end with @torck.io.

A name change creates extra work for customers right off the bat. Someone has to update the supplier master data, someone else has to update the address book, and in accounting, an invoice from a new sender has to be assigned to the old supplier account. That takes time that no one had planned for.

We weighed the pros and cons and decided to make the change anyway. A name that originated solely from a registry entry costs more in the long run than a one-time change. It doesn’t explain to anyone what we’re building, and it doesn’t tie together three locations in three countries. Anyone who thinks the change is an unnecessary hassle in the first few weeks is right—for those weeks. But it pays off afterward.

The old addresses will automatically redirect

No one needs to update their bookmarks. The domains hahn-software.io, hahn-software.com, and hahn-softwareentwicklung.de now use 301 redirects to torck.io. Old links from offers, manuals, email signatures, or presentations will therefore lead to the correct page under the new name.

The same applies to emails. Messages sent to the old addresses will reach the usual contacts, and the reply will come from an address ending in @torck.io. So you don't need to check a distribution list before writing to us.

Yes. It is the same company with the same commercial register number, HRB 7272, at the Amberg Local Court. Only the company name has changed; nothing else. Will the contracts and contact persons remain valid?
